What local AI means

Local AI, also called on-premise AI or private AI, runs on your own hardware rather than with a cloud provider. The Sinabox goes one step further: after the initial setup it runs as offline AI, with no internet connection and no outbound data traffic.

Why not run it yourself?

You can, and it has real upsides: open language models are freely available, you choose the hardware and software yourself, and you keep full control over every setting. For teams with AI experience of their own, this can be exactly the right route.

In everyday use, though, it becomes clear what is involved:

• Someone has to look after it: updates, new models, backups and user management do not run by themselves and take ongoing time in the team.
• No contact person when problems arise: if something fails, troubleshooting is on you, even when everyone is waiting for the system.
• Background knowledge is needed: a chat is quick to set up. Text recognition (OCR) for scanned documents, search across large document collections and reliable source references are far more demanding.
• The hardware has to fit: graphics card, memory and model must work together, otherwise the system gets slow or the answers suffer.

The limits, honestly

Local AI does not replace every cloud application. Offline, it has no access to current content from the internet. If you want, we can set it up to retrieve websites, otherwise it stays sealed off.
